Future of Mobile Broadband
Saturday, August 30th, 2008Telecoms watchdog, Ofcom came out with some very interesting information about the Broadband industry. The question has been raised at to whether Mobile Broadband is the future. Dongle sales reached a record high of 133,000, so it is quite easy to affirm that mobile broadband is the experiencing the fastest in the broadband industry. The sales growth is constantly increasing from month to month at an average 18%. At this rate, it is anticipated that dongle sales will reach 300,000 per month by the end of 2008, vastly increasing the use of broadband for laptops.Studies indicate that there is an estimated 2 million broadband users in the UK. However, those who use their laptops while on the move are the minority – 25%. Most users are accessing their online services only from home.Since technology is constantly changing, and being improved, is it realistic to expect that in the future, mobile broadband will replace landline broadband. Or will it instead be a merging of the mobile and landline telecom operators. Mobile Broadband is attractive to most because of its cost, and not necessarily the service offered. Mobile telecom companies are investing and working hard on expanding 3G mobile broadband across the UK, For now the limited availability is a big disadvantage.improved, is it realistic to expect that in the future, mobile broadband will replace landline broadband.
