What I like about the nursing school I attended is that it was named one of "America’s Best Colleges" a few times recently by the U.S. News & World Report. It helps when it comes to interviewing. Believe it or not, the reputation of the RN programs out there makes a difference. I had a few schools that had good reputations, and that were accredited not only by the regionally accreditation body but by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) or the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC). It’s nice to get that extra boost when choosing a school. I think if you look at the passing percentages for the NCLEX, its higher for the higher rated schools. That’s not to be discounted. Some people like to find a bargain, but when it comes to your career, it just doesn’t make sense. An extra six months of a salary while other might need to take the NCLEX over again makes a huge difference.
