My Computer Gave Up The Ghost

Friday, May 9th, 2008

I am often times given to little fits of maddens when my computer goes on the fritz. I look like Pete Rose kicking the mound when my screen goes blank. It is with a heavy heart then that I tell you that yesterday, after running a windows xp registry cleaner, my computer gave up the ghost. It may have had less to do with the cleaner and more to do with my foot through the case…and the hammer I used to get it out. I write this from an Internet cafe. They probably took the time to do better maintenance on their machines. Don’t be like me. Clean your registry. Um, and stay in school.

Do You Know? Dish Network vs Direct TV

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

I am looking for answers in regard to the Dish Network vs Direct TV battle. I would like to know which service is the best that I can buy. I really do want the digital video recording technology, as I work third shift and I would like to watch daytime shows. Does anyone have some information on the best way to go about purchasing satellite TV? Which company offers the best digital video recording deal? Is there a way to get free installation and equipment? Are there extra charges for using the digital video recorder? I really would love more information on this topic is anyone wants to share some.

Not for Everyone

There are certain situations where people really shouldn’t spend money on products they have no use for. There are people who don’t need to buy digital cameras. There are a lot of families in the United States with no computer and no access to a computer. Even at libraries it is hard to wait in the often long lines to use a public computer. For those people, there is no benefit to a digital camera. The traditional camera with film would be a better solution because film isn’t that expensive and they can always go and have the film developed at the local drugstore.

There are a lot of things that can cause your registry and windows run slow, or produce errors. After reading a Regcure review I understand a lot more about what types of items can go wrong, and how they cause your PC to run slow, or pop up errors constantly. I’m going to provide a brief list of just some of the items Regcure can detect and help correct or delete.

Uninstall entries are a popular error in the registry. These occur when you uninstall a program but the not everything is removed, especially the registry entries that were created when the program was installed. Empty registry keys are parts of the registry that exist yet they have no data associated with or in them. This takes up space, causes your PC to run slower, but provides no benefit. These are located and deleted. Incorrect application paths are another item that is scanned for. These are paths to programs or directories that are stated incorrectly in your registry. Because of this programs or windows can crash looking for something that isn’t really there.

Is there a way to use cell phone reverse lookup on pesky telemarketers? I have been getting telemarketing calls on my cell phone, and I have looked them up on the other directories with no results. Are the telemarketers now using cell phone numbers somehow to get around laws, regulations and other measures of putting a stop to their calls? All I know is that I am so sick of telemarketing calls, whether on my cell phone, my house phone or at work and I just do not know just how much more I can take of them calling me and me feeling so helpless against them.

Here is one more thing to remember when you are doing shopping comparisons between Dish Network vs Direct TV. Both satellite companies include some sort of pay per view system in the contract. This means that you can watch movies or events, but you must pay extra for them each time that you choose to watch them. You will want to keep this in mind when you are making the comparison. Remember to find out how much it will cost for movies and sporting events. If this is an important part of the service to you, then you may want to go with the company who has the cheapest movies or events.

The instantaneous quality of digital photography - something that makes even fast-developing Polaroids look sluggish by comparison -  is for many one of the chief advantages of going digital. The same picture that appears within microseconds on your own computer screen could also appear on someone else’s screen (provided the computers were linked on the internet).

The primary drawback with direct digital photography is image quality. The Apple QuickTake 100, for example, takes pictures with roughly 300,000 pixels (picture elements) in its high-resolution mode. A top-of-the-line digital camera captures about 8.5 million pixels.

This creates a fairly high quality image that can then be easily enhanced using one of the many different photo editor software applications currently available on the market today.

Xbox 360 Repair Guides Remain Popular

Thursday, May 1st, 2008

The Xbox 360 3 red lights problem is alive and well, especially for xbox 360 owners who purchased their units a couple years ago. It was these early units that had the design flaw that was causing the 3 red problem to occur in about 30% of all Xbox is sold. That’s a huge number of defective units for any product. If it happened to a company that didn’t have the deep pockets like Microsoft has, it’s quite likely it would have bankrupted the company. However, after a lot of stop and go, Microsoft finally came around and admitted to the 3 red lights problem and changed their warranty to a full three years for that particular problem. The three red lights problem became so prevalent that a small industry sprouted up around repairing this problem in the form of several do-it-yourself xbox 360 repair guides.

The reason that these repair guides became popular was because Microsoft originally was charging $140 for the repair. This was before they had extended the warranty to three years. In addition to the do-it-yourself repair guides, there are also some repair services available to Xbox owners. You can send your xbox 360 out for repairs if you’re not comfortable opening up the unit and doing the repair yourself. These services will charge about $50 and you’ll be without your Xbox for about 7 to 10 days. The do-it-yourself repair route is popular because you can get the problem fixed in about an hour to an hour and a half and the guides themselves cost anywhere between $20 and $30 and usually include videos of the repair being done.

I was recently a contestant on Jeopardy. What is bluetooth was the question that won me a lot of money. The game show host gives you answers, and you have to provide the correct questions. The answer stated that this is only compatible with certain cellular devices and it allows you to operate your phone hands free. I have a bluetooth compatible cellular phone, and I use my hands-free bluetooth accessories all the time. That is how I knew that what is bluetooth was the question.

If your computer were infested with ants you’d call an exterminator. If it were infested with viruses you’d call on an antivirus program. When you find your computer infested with programs that look like legitimate programs yet are anything but, you call on a Spyware Eliminator program. Where antivirus programs miss spyware, spyware cleaners don’t. These programs are designed to really get to the middle of the problem and to check bit by bit which programs are supposed to be there and which ones are sneaking into the computer without permission. Spyware programs follow a pattern that can be detected.

Apple today also announced an exclusive agreement with Starbucks that allows you to access the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store for free in participating US Starbucks stores starting next month. When you enter a participating Starbucks location, your iPod touch, iPhone, or PC or Mac? running iTunes will automatically recognize the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store. Apple said that its latest digital audio player would become available towards the end of September, but eight days later reports began trickling in that the 16GB iPod touch was available in limited quantities at Apple Stores. Apple has proved capable of near-miraculous things. The original iPod changed the world’s perception of digital music by demonstrating the value of a cutting-edge 1.8” hard drive and a simple, intuitive user interface.
