Tender and Savory Antichuchos
Friday, October 30th, 2009Anticuchos are delicious! I first encountered these on a trip to Lima. If you walk down any street in the early evening, you will see vendors with little grills and stands everywhere selling anticuchos, a kind of Peruvian kebab. My travel companion described them to me as “marinaded beef heart.” To my American taste buds, that did not exactly sound mouth-watering, but in the spirit of “when in Rome, do as the Romans do,” I gave it a try. I am so glad that I did! The beef was tender and savory, having been marinated all day in a blend of spices. The anticuchos were so delicious that I forgot I was even eating a heart.
