Coral Calcium is a calcium supplement derived from coral reefs; although more accurately, since coral reefs are endangered, the manufactured supplements are largely derived from fossilized coral beds or above ground limestone deposits. Coral Calcium consists of calcium carbonate, magnesium and minute traces of other various minerals. There have been many claims about the health effects of coral calcium; among which has been the claim by some that it can actually slow the aging process. These individuals claim that Coral Calcium contains a higher concentration of calcium, (a key mineral in human health) and as a result, a person’s chromosomes are smothered in calcium, promoting longer resiliency. This claim has not been verified and no scientific test of these claims has been publicly made. Another claim is that Coral Calcium can cure cancer; another claim that has, not only no evidence to support it, but all evidence seems to indicate this is absolutely untrue. The claim is that Coral Calcium increases the pH level of the body, effectively killing the cancerous cells. Studies have found that higher pH levels do kill cancer cells; however the levels need to be such that they would kill all human cells, healthy or otherwise. Also, the human body has a means to regulate its pH level, to prevent it from getting too high; any excess pH is excreted through urine.
