It is truly amazing how the criminals have come to have so many more rights than those who are trying to live safely and by the laws of the land.  Law abiding citizens have the right to defend themselves from harm.  They cannot go around using self defense products just on a whim, but if they are threatened and someone intends to do them harm, they are fully within their rights to defend themselves with whatever measures are necessary.  If more people would prepare themselves to do whatever it takes to be safe, maybe the criminals would begin to realize there is a real possibility they will get hurt.
