The chime tones for antique grandfather clocks are much richer that the chimes of newer clocks. Antique grandfather clocks were build during a time when craftsmanship still had meaning. Modern grandfather clocks have particle board or some other composite for their cases where as real antique grandfather clocks have real wood often with artful scroll work and even intricate carvings. The cases isn’t lacquered either the wood is hand rubbed with soft clothes and linseed oil. The linseed oil keeps the wood looking alive. These antique grandfather clocks have retain their value like not modern clock will be capable of.
